Race the
Lagos Grand Prix

DRS is gone: in 2026 the wings move on their own and overtaking comes down to energy. Twelve cars, one street circuit through Eko Atlantic and over Falomo Bridge.

01 · What replaced DRS

Wings that change shape

DRS opened a slot in the rear wing when you were within a second of the car ahead. For 2026, every car has active aero: flaps on both the front and rear wings open on designated straights and close for the corners. Moving both ends keeps the car balanced.

Downforce0kN pushing the car down
Drag0kN holding it back
Power to beat drag0kW at this speed
Grip in a 150 m corner0max speed, km/h

Corner mode angles the flaps steeply. That pushes the car into the track (downforce = more grip), but costs drag.

Straight mode flattens them. Drag falls by roughly 40% in our model, so the same power buys a higher top speed. The catch: you can only use it in marked zones, and it closes the moment you brake or lift to recharge.

02 · Take it apart

What's under the bodywork

Drag the slider to strip the car down. Tap any label to see what that part does, and how the 2026 rules changed it.

03 · Half electric

A power unit that runs out

The V6 turbo stays, but the electric motor (MGU-K) now makes up to 350 kW, nearly three times 2025's figure, so about half the power is electric. The battery can't supply that for a whole lap, so energy becomes the race.

Boost
+150 kW

A button for extra battery power anywhere on the lap, as long as there's charge. Capped at +150 kW since the Miami GP.

Recharge
~8 MJ

Braking and lifting off recover energy, up to about 8 MJ a lap in a race. Lift-off regen closes the active aero.

Super clipping
250 kW

Late on a straight, the engine map can divert power from the wheels into the battery at full throttle. You'll see the car slow with its wings still open.

Overtake mode
+0.5 MJ

Within one second of the car ahead at the detection point earns extra energy and a stronger deployment profile on the next lap (in our one-lap Grand Prix you get it on the very next straight). Power, not less drag.

04 · Before and after

DRS vs. 2026

2025 · DRS

  • Only the rear wing opened.
  • Only within 1 s of the car ahead, in DRS zones.
  • Less drag for the chaser = the passing aid.
  • MGU-K: 120 kW. MGU-H recovered exhaust energy.

2026 · Active aero + energy

  • Front and rear wings move together, for every car.
  • Straight Mode in marked zones, no gap needed.
  • The passing aid is electric: Overtake Mode within 1 s.
  • MGU-K: 350 kW. MGU-H removed. 100% sustainable fuel.
